Gea Dreschler is an Assistant Professor of English Linguistics at the Department of Language, Literature & Communication, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She also serves as Academic Director of the Academic Language Programme (ALP) within the Faculty of Humanities. Her research focuses on syntax, information structure, and contrastive Dutch-English linguistics, with notable work on historical developments in passive constructions and non-canonical sentence structures.
Education: PhD in English Linguistics (Radboud University, 2015), MPhil in Linguistics (Leiden University, 2008), BA in English Language and Culture (Leiden University, 2007). She teaches academic grammar and writing courses across disciplines, including coordination of the University Minor in English and involvement in the GMAT preparation course for the School of Business and Economics.
Research highlights include a 2023 grant from the Centre for Teaching and Learning to study ChatGPT's impact on academic writing, resulting in podcasts with expert discussions. She is part of the DFG-funded Scientific Network ‘Non-canonical Syntax in English’.
Advising and grants: Supervises Master’s students in CIW: Schrijven & Vertalen on topics like translation, metadiscourse, and academic writing. Ancillary activities include board roles at Netwerk Academische Communicatieve Vaardigheden (2021–present) and Nederlands-Vlaams Platform Taalbeleid Hoger Onderwijs (2023–present).
