Gayan Wedawatta is a Senior Lecturer in Construction and Quantity Surveying at the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Infrastructure and Sustainable Engineering, Aston University. He holds a PhD from the University of Salford and is a Chartered Construction Manager (MCIOB), Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor (MCInstCES), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research focuses on disaster resilience, flood adaptation, and the resilience of construction SMEs to extreme weather events. He has held academic roles at Aston University, Northumbria University, and others since 2007.
Education: PhD in Construction and Property Management (University of Salford, 2013); PGCert in Professional Practice in HE (Aston University, 2015); BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying (University of Moratuwa, 2007).
Research Interests: Disaster management, SME resilience to extreme weather, cost management in construction, sustainable construction practices, and post-disaster recovery strategies. He has published extensively in journals like Construction Management and Economics and Disasters.
External Roles: External Examiner for multiple universities including London Metropolitan University and Robert Gordon University. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Building’s Accreditation Panel.
Supervision & Grants: Open to PhD supervision on cost management, disaster resilience, and construction contracts. His work includes grants related to flood adaptation and SME resilience.
Labs/Teams: Involved in initiatives like the ARCOM Doctoral Workshop on Industry 4.0 and Disaster Resilience in the Built Environment.
