Dr. Gary Blanchard is the Medical Director of Geriatrics-Palliative Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital (SVH), where he leads an interdisciplinary team addressing hospital delirium in older adults. He holds academic roles as the Geriatrics-Palliative Care Educational Director for SVH’s medicine residents and has developed interdisciplinary geriatrics curricula supported by federal grants. He serves as a leader of UMass Chan Medical School’s Geriatrics Interest Group and a Learning Community mentor for Kelley House medical students. Dr. Blanchard completed his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine, residency and chief residency in internal medicine at SVH, and a geriatric medicine fellowship at Brown University.

His research interests focus on improving care for older adults through interdisciplinary collaboration and medical education innovation. Dr. Blanchard is deeply involved in mentoring next-generation clinicians, designing curricula, and fostering student engagement through initiatives like the student-run The Connective Issue newspaper during medical school.
Outside academia, he leads an annual family project constructing a haunted house in Grafton, Massachusetts, which he shares with his mentees.
