About
Dr. Gary Andersen serves as Adjunct Professor at UC Berkeley's Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management and leads research at Berkeley Lab. His work integrates genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to analyze microbial communities in extreme environments.
Research focuses on:
- Microbial source tracking in watersheds
- Thermophilic composting processes
- Microbial-enhanced hydrocarbon recovery
- Development of PhyloChip technology
Current projects address environmental challenges including water quality assessment, optimization of waste treatment systems, and control of reservoir souring in petroleum systems through microbial community analysis.
