Garth Saloner is the Botha-Chan Professor of Economics at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he served as Dean from 2009-2016. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and A.M. from Stanford University, an MBA from University of the Witwatersrand, and a B.Com from the same institution.
His research examines:
- Organizational economics and strategic management
- Competitive strategy and market dynamics
- Entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems
- Leadership development in global contexts
As Dean, he led significant expansions of faculty, programs, and facilities including the Knight Management Center. He co-founded the Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies (Seed) to combat global poverty through entrepreneurship.
Awards include:
- Two-time recipient of Stanford GSB's Distinguished Teaching Award
- Doctor Honoris Causa from Universidad ESAN
- Fellowship in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
