University of California, DavisAbout
Fumika Hamada is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior at the University of California, Davis. Her research focuses on the molecular and neural mechanisms underlying temperature homeostasis, integrating circadian rhythms, sleep, sensory experience, metabolism, and aging. She received her BS, MS, and PhD in Biology from Tokyo University of Science (1999-2004), followed by postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School (2004-2005) and MIT/Brandeis University (2005-2009). Her lab moved to UC Davis in 2021 after establishing itself at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
- Education: Tokyo University of Science (BS, MS, PhD), Harvard Medical School (Postdoc), MIT/Brandeis University (Postdoc)
- Model Systems: Drosophila and mice
- Techniques: Genetic, behavioral, optogenetic, and physiological approaches
Research in the Hamada Lab explores how temperature homeostasis coordinates with circadian rhythms, sleep, metabolism, and aging. Current work emphasizes the role of sensory systems and internal nutrient states in regulating thermal preference. The lab maintains affiliations with multiple graduate programs, including Biochemistry, Entomology, and Neuroscience.
The Hamada Lab actively recruits undergraduate and graduate students interested in neurobiology and physiology, with team members pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and neuroscience. For inquiries, contact fnhamada@ucdavis.edu.
