Fred Anklam Jr.

Fred Anklam Jr. is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at the University of Missouri's Missouri School of Journalism, joining in July 2021. He teaches core reporting courses and oversees student coverage of state government for the Columbia Missourian, the school's teaching laboratory. Previously, he served as Senior Editor at the Missourian (fall 2019–2020) and co-founded the nonprofit Mississippitoday.org (2015–2018).

Anklam's career spans decades in news reporting and editing, with roles at USA TODAY (1983–2015) covering Congress, the Pentagon, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission, later directing White House and Pentagon coverage as News Editor (1993–1997) and leading the International Edition (1997–2005). He culminated his tenure as Senior Night Editor (2013–2015), overseeing all overnight print and digital content.
