Tom Warhover is an Associate Professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, University of Missouri, where he also serves as Editor-at-Large for the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute. He previously held leadership roles as Executive Editor of the Columbia Missourian (2001–2017) and Chair of the Print and Digital News faculty (2006–2017), stepping down to focus on teaching and research.
His research and professional work center on civic journalism, digital-first news production, and community engagement in media. He contributed to shaping public journalism practices at The Virginian-Pilot before joining academia, and under his leadership, the Columbia Missourian earned numerous state and national awards for excellence in journalism.
Warhover co-authored the textbook Getting the Whole Story: Reporting and Writing the News, reflecting his commitment to journalism education. Though no individual scientific awards are listed, the newsroom he led became a model for innovation in local journalism.
He has mentored countless journalism students through hands-on training at the Columbia Missourian, a student-staffed community newspaper. His work continues to influence both pedagogy and practice in modern journalism. He is actively engaged in research and teaching at the university.
