Frans van Lunteren is a Full Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and the Athena Institute, where he explores interfaces between science and society. He also contributes to the Network Institute and chairs the VU Stevin Centre for the history of science and humanities.
Research Interests include discipline formation, international collaboration, laboratories, metrology, meteorology, physics, and the concept of 'laws of nature'. His work intersects with the UN Sustainable Development Goals through interdisciplinary science-society dialogues.
Teaching encompasses courses on the history of science, earth sciences, life sciences, health sciences, pharmacy, and chemistry. He also instructs research integrity and contributes to Leiden University's Honours Programme as a part-time professor.
