Francis Gingras is a Full Professor at the Department of French-language Literature, Université de Montréal since 2003. He holds a PhD in Medieval Literature from Université Montpellier 3 (1999). His research focuses on medieval narrative forms, French language history, and the development of the romance genre. He has directed major projects like the Réseau Circé (2024) and served as editor of Études françaises (2008–2014). His awards include membership in the Royal Society of Canada (2014).
Key roles include Director of Presses de l’Université de Montréal (2023), former Director of the Department of French Literature (2017–2021) and the Centre d'études médiévales (2012–2019). He has supervised over 30 graduate students and authored major works like Le Bâtard conquérant (2011) and Profession médiéviste (2014).
Research interests span medieval manuscript studies, biblical translations, and digital humanities. He co-leads the Réseau québécois de recherche et de mutualisation pour les revues scientifiques, funded by Fonds de recherche du Québec.
