Francesca Cenerini

Full Professor of Roman History and Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bologna. Coordinates the PhD Programme in History, Cultures and Civilizations, specializing in epigraphic evidence of women's roles in Roman society. Her research reconstructs female agency through inscriptions, examining matronal influence, imperial propaganda, and social marginalization.

Monographs analyze imperial women from Livia to Messalina, challenging historiographical traditions. Current projects investigate Roman family structures and civic identity through epigraphic corpora from Emilia-Romagna and Sardinia. Leads international collaborations on gender in Mediterranean antiquity.
