About
Dr Frances Humby is a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the Centre for Experimental Medicine and Rheumatology (EMR) within the William Harvey Research Institute. She holds an MRCP and PhD from University College London, where she specialized in genetics and rheumatology. Her research focuses on translational medicine, particularly rheumatoid arthritis (RA), emphasizing synovial pathobiology, biomarkers for early RA prognosis, and drug response prediction. She leads collaborative projects such as PEAC, R4RA, and MATURA (STRAP), and has pioneered ultrasound-guided synovial biopsy techniques for clinical trials. Key collaborators include Dr Arti Mahto and Dr Maria DiCicco.
Education: MBBS with honors from UCL Medical School (1997), First Class BSc in Genetics, and a PhD on ectopic lymphoneogenesis in RA synovium. Her work bridges clinical practice and research, with a focus on immune mechanisms and synovial tissue analysis. She is part of Barts and The London School of Medicine, contributing to both academic and clinical advancements.
Research interests include synovial biomarkers, RA pathophysiology, and the role of ectopic lymphoid structures in autoimmunity. Her publications emphasize diagnostic innovation, therapeutic efficacy, and molecular mechanisms in inflammatory arthritis. She actively participates in translational studies to improve patient outcomes through precision medicine approaches.
