Florian Heesch

Prof. Dr. Florian Heesch is a Professor of Musicology at the University of Siegen, specializing in Metal Music Studies, Gender and Sexuality in Music, and Popular Music History. He has held academic roles since 2013 at the University of Siegen, expanding his focus to Popular Music and Gender Studies in 2015. His research bridges the gap between 'High' and 'Low' cultural forms, particularly through investigations into sentimental ballads and their intersections with popular music history.

He leads multiple DFG-funded projects, including A04 Low Pop global: Schlager und Highlife, AG5 Somatik des Populären, and AG8 Globaldimension des Populären.
