About
Fiona Schrading is a Researcher at the Institute of Media and Culture at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf. She is also an associate member of the DFG Research Training Group „Aesthetic Practice“ at the University of Hildesheim. Born in 1990, she holds degrees in Media and Culture from universities in Düsseldorf and Vienna. Her work focuses on queerfeminist materialism, media ecology, and temporal studies within the context of the Anthropocene.
Her research explores how epistemic and aesthetic practices re-localize past and future in an era of ecological crisis, challenging linear time concepts through neomaterialist, decolonial, and afro-pessimistic frameworks. She examines questions of existence, care, and non-simultaneous presence in fragile material-semiotic systems.
Publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to temporality, media theory, and cultural studies. Notable works include analyses of speculative worlds, affective relations in rural cultural institutions, and commoning futures in the Anthropocene. Active in both academic and institutional contexts, her work bridges theory and practice across media, philosophy, and decolonial studies.
