Fiona Kelly

Professor Fiona Kelly is an Adjunct Professor at La Trobe University Law School with expertise in family law and health law. Her research examines legal regulation of assisted reproduction, donor conception systems, LGBTQ+ parenting rights, single mother families, and medical consent for transgender youth. She holds law degrees from the University of Melbourne and University of British Columbia.

Her ARC Discovery Project 'Families of Strangers? The socio-legal implications of donor linking' explores identity and relationship dynamics in donor-conceived families. Collaborative work with the Victorian Assisted Reproduction Treatment Authority (VARTA) includes co-authoring reports on donor conception records and serving on their Board (2019-2024).

Publications address donor conception regulation in digital contexts, consent frameworks for transgender healthcare, and legal challenges for non-traditional families. Recent work analyzes how digital platforms transform donor linking practices and challenges existing legal frameworks governing family formation.
