Dr. Filemon K. Tan is a Professor of Medicine at UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School, where he has built a distinguished career spanning over two decades. He completed his entire medical education and training at UTHealth Houston, joining the faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine in 1998 and rising to full Professor by 2010. Currently, he holds the prestigious Linda K. Finger Chair in Autoimmune and Connective Tissue Diseases and directs the UT Physicians Rheumatology Clinic at the Texas Medical Center.
Dr. Tan's research focuses on genetic factors influencing susceptibility to autoimmune diseases, particularly lupus and scleroderma, and analyzing gene expression patterns to discover disease pathways and potential biomarkers. As one of the Principal Investigators of the Center of Research Translation in Scleroderma, his work bridges basic science and clinical application. His clinical expertise extends to musculoskeletal sonography, where he holds dual certification (RMSK and RhMSUSTM).
