Filbert Totsingan

Dr. Filbert Totsingan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His PhD research (University of Parma) developed biosensors using fluorescent peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) for nucleic acid detection. Postdoctoral work at NYU involved designing antimicrobial peptides and dendrimeric nanoparticles mimicking host defense peptides.

Current research utilizes enzymes (proteases, lipases) to modify bioactive polymers for biomedical applications. He engineers unimolecular nanoparticles for drug delivery, medical imaging, antimicrobials, and tissue adhesives, with emphasis on structure-activity relationships and biocompatibility.
