Fiamma Straneo

Fiamma Straneo is a Professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego, specializing in high-latitude oceanic processes and their role in the climate system. Her research focuses on interactions between ice sheets and oceans, Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, freshwater and meltwater dynamics, dense water formation, and heat transport in polar regions.

• Education: PhD in Physical Oceanography from the University of Washington; Laurea cum Laude in Physics from Universita' Statale Milano, Italy.

Research Interests span climate sciences, physical oceanography, and polar systems. She investigates the cryosphere's impact on global climate, including ice-ocean interactions and freshwater export from polar regions.
