Research Focus: Fergus investigates the intersection of climate change with politics, law, and justice. His work is organized around three themes: (1) Restricting fossil fuel production and use, (2) Designing just transitions for communities affected by decarbonization, and (3) Building equitable social contracts through climate policy. He employs interdisciplinary approaches drawing from political economy, ethics, and public policy.
Publication Trends: His recent articles (2020–2025) predominantly analyze climate governance frameworks, anti-fossil fuel norms, and socio-political barriers to decarbonization.
