Fareda Banda

Fareda Banda is Professor of Law at SOAS University of London, specializing in gender rights, family law, and religious legal systems. She has advised UN agencies and governments on discriminatory laws.

Research Interests: Intersection of religious law and women's rights, African gender equality, and migration narratives, with fieldwork across Africa.

Publications: Authored books on religious law and migration, contributing to UN Women's global reports on family law evolution.

Leadership: Trustee for human rights organizations including Human Rights Watch Africa and Sisters for Change. Supervises PhD research on Boko Haram and transitional justice.
