About
Dr. Falko Drijfhout is a Senior Lecturer at Keele University's Lennard-Jones School of Chemical and Physical Sciences. He obtained his MSc (1996) and PhD (2001) in Analytical Chemistry/Chemical Ecology from Wageningen University, Netherlands. His research integrates analytical chemistry with entomology, focusing on:
- Cuticular hydrocarbon analysis for forensic entomology and species identification
- Insect pheromone systems (thrips, ants, bees)
- Metabonomic approaches for post-mortem interval estimation
- Pesticide impact studies on pollinators
He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in spectroscopy, chemical analysis, and forensic science, and supervises research projects. Drijfhout is affiliated with Keele's Chemical Ecology Group and Centre for Applied Entomology and Parasitology (CAEP).
His recent publications demonstrate strong emphasis on forensic entomology applications (cuticular hydrocarbons for species/age identification), chemical ecology (pheromone systems), and interdisciplinary approaches spanning analytical chemistry, ecology, and environmental science.
