Fabio Montanari is an Assistant Professor at York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD). He is a filmmaker and scholar with extensive experience in screenwriting and directing for major networks like Netflix, HBO, and National Geographic. He is the creator of an original international fiction TV series currently filming for Amazon Prime Video. His independent films have screened at over 50 global festivals, including Palm Springs and São Paulo, where he won an Audience Favorite award.
Montanari holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University (as a Fulbright scholar) and a BA in Journalism from the University of São Paulo. His creative work spans multiple markets, including the U.S., Argentina, Venezuela, and Canada, collaborating with companies like Banger Films and BBDO Agency. His mixed-media projects have garnered prestigious awards such as eight Cannes Lions and the CLIO.
He serves as a mentor for Being Black in Canada (BBIC), a mentorship program supporting Black filmmakers. His research and creative practice focus on storytelling across film, television, and digital media, emphasizing cross-cultural narratives and innovative formats.
