Fabian Hiller

Fabian Hiller is a Scientific Employee and PhD candidate at the Department of Sinology, Faculty of Humanities, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, where he has been affiliated since 2020. He holds an M.A. in Sinology and a B.A. in Sinology and Business Administration, both from the University of Tübingen, with academic experience at Peking University.

His research centers on Chinese history and society, particularly focusing on Zhang Taiyan (1869–1936) as a pivotal figure in China’s transition from imperial rule to a modern nation-state. He challenges prevailing interpretations of Zhang as a spiritual utopian by analyzing lesser-known texts to present him as a pragmatic realist who engaged with but did not prioritize utopian ideals over political reality.

His work intersects with strategic management and corporate development in China, informed by his professional role as co-founder of SkillRoad, a consultancy supporting German-Chinese business operations through strategy development and bilingual personnel placement.

He has been recognized with the Germany Scholarship and the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship during his studies and was active in student representation for Sinology from 2013 to 2017.
