About
Professor Ezio Bonifacio, Ph.D. is a faculty member at Dresden University of Technology affiliated with the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD). His research spans immunology, regenerative medicine, and metabolic diseases with significant contributions to diabetes research and post-viral syndrome studies.
Dr. Bonifacio's primary research interests include immunological profiling in type 1 diabetes, regenerative approaches for pancreatic islet cells, and transcriptomic analysis of Long COVID-19. His work employs cutting-edge single-cell techniques to address fundamental questions in autoimmune diseases and tissue regeneration.
As a research leader, he serves as speaker for the Cluster of Excellence 'Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD)' (EXC 168) and previously for the Research Center FZT 111. He currently participates in the International Research Training Group 2251 focused on immunological strategies for metabolic diseases.
- B/T cell receptor and immune cell profiling in children at high risk for type 1 diabetes
- Identification and characterization of Long COVID-19 patients using whole blood transcriptomics
- Optimization of porcine neonatal islets for clinical transplantation therapy
- Diabetes and regeneration of pancreatic islet cells
His research infrastructure includes leadership of the DRESDEN-concept Genome Center, providing advanced genomic capabilities for the research community. Dr. Bonifacio's work bridges fundamental immunological research with clinical applications in regenerative medicine.
