Ewa Nowicka Rusek is a Professor at the University of Warsaw and founder of the Department of Social Anthropology at the Institute of Sociology. She is an active member of the Committee of Migration and Polonia Studies, Committee of Ethnological Sciences, and Balkan Studies Commission under the Polish Academy of Sciences, and authored the foundational social anthropology handbook 'Świat Człowieka – Świat Kultury' (The World of Man – The World of Culture).
Her research integrates social anthropology and sociology to examine cultural contact phenomena, familiarity-strangeness dynamics, Siberian nation formation, and the socio-political conditions of Polish minorities across former Soviet territories. She maintains a strong regional focus on marginalized communities in Poland and Central/Eastern Europe, with specialized expertise in Roma and Vlach populations.
