Dr. Everton Prospere is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, serving on faculty since 2003. He directs the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program and co-directs the HRSA-funded Brooklyn Initiative to Develop Geriatric Education (BRIDGE), focusing on interprofessional geriatrics training across Brooklyn healthcare settings.
His educational journey includes a BS in Biomedical Education from CUNY Sophie Davis School (1992-1997, Magna Cum Laude), MD from NYU School of Medicine (1997-1999), Internal Medicine residency (2000-2002), Geriatric Medicine fellowship (2002-2003), and MPH from SUNY Downstate (2005-2008). Triple board-certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice & Palliative Care, his clinical work spans Brooklyn's elderly population through community health initiatives in schools and faith-based organizations.
Research interests center on geriatric healthcare disparities, dementia progression in multiracial urban populations, and community-based interventions for elderly wellbeing. His publication record examines neuropsychiatric symptom severity in diverse dementia patients, reflecting intersections of neuroscience, public health, and clinical geriatrics. Current work emphasizes workforce development through the BRIDGE program and Alzheimer's care expansion via the NYS Center of Excellence.
Awarded the Dr. Samuel L Kountz Jr. Excellence in Mentoring Award (2019) and Delta Omega Honorary Society membership (2014-present), his contributions bridge clinical practice, education, and policy.
As fellowship director since 2012, he mentors emerging geriatric specialists while securing major funding including a $3.75M HRSA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program grant (2019-2024, $750k/year) and NYS Alzheimer's Center of Excellence funding (2016-2020). His leadership extends to former roles as Division Chief of Geriatrics (2010-2016) and Medical Consultation Service Director (2007-2014).
Dr. Prospere co-leads the BRIDGE program team and SUNY Downstate's Geriatric Workforce Enhancement initiatives, integrating academic training with community health outreach through faith-based partnerships and school programs across Brooklyn.
