Prof. Dr. Eva Schlecht holds the Chair of Animal Husbandry in the Tropics and Subtropics at both the University of Kassel and the University of Göttingen, Germany. Her academic career includes roles as a Scientist at Hohenheim University (2001–2005) and Postdoctoral Scientist at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Niger (1995–2000). She earned her Habilitation in Animal Nutrition and Tropical Agricultural Systems from Hohenheim University's Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in 2005, following a PhD in Agricultural Sciences (1994) and earlier degrees (B.Sc. 1986, M.Sc. 1989) at the same institution.
Her research focuses on optimizing animal production systems in tropical and subtropical regions, with a particular emphasis on sustainable livestock management, resource efficiency, and adaptation to climatic challenges. She leads the Animal Husbandry in the Tropics and Subtropics (AHTS) team, which collaborates internationally on projects such as improving animal nutrition strategies and mitigating environmental impacts in agricultural systems.
