Eva Paris-Huesca

Eva Paris-Huesca is an Associate Professor in the Department of World Languages & Cultures at Ohio Wesleyan University, specializing in Spanish language, literature, and cinema. She also serves as Director of the Film Studies Program and Director of Study Abroad in Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona. Her academic journey includes a B.A. from Universidad de Valencia (Spain), an M.A. from the University of Nebraska, and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, with a Certificate in Film Studies.

Her research focuses on contemporary Spanish literature, women’s cinema, and crime fiction, particularly through lenses of historical memory, gender studies, and feminist theory. She co-authored the book project Compromiso, cine y género: Cineastas españolas del nuevo milenio and regularly teaches courses integrating cinema and literature as pedagogical tools to explore Spanish-speaking cultures.

Dr. Paris-Huesca’s publications span academic articles on directors like Patricia Ferreira, Isabel Coixet, and Pilar Miró, emphasizing female agency and cultural critique in Spanish cinema. Her work has been supported by grants such as the Ohio Five Mellon Language Grant and collaborative projects with institutions like the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

She actively involves students in academic and cultural events, including the annual Hispanic Film Festival and travel courses to Spain. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes student-teacher collaboration and holistic language learning, incorporating video essays, short films, and professional portfolios into coursework.
