Mar Inestrillas

Mar Inestrillas is an Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), affiliated with the Department of World Languages and Literatures within the College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University and has extensive international experience, including a visiting professorship at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid. Her research focuses on 20th- and 21st-century Hispanic literature and culture, post-Civil War/postmodern peninsular works, diaspora/exile studies, film, and critical theory.

Research Interests: Her work explores themes like migration, memory, gender, and cultural identity through literature, film, and critical theory. She frequently presents at international conferences such as ALDEEU and CILH, addressing topics like transnational narratives in cinema and exilic intellectual experiences.

Awards and Recognition:

• "Honor Mention" in the 2016 International Latino Book Awards for From Snowcaps to Desert Flats: An Anthology of Latino Writers in Nevada
• Chosen for the USAC visiting professorship at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (2012)

Teaching & Service: Since 2002, she has taught advanced courses in Spanish literature, film, and critical theory. She has served as Spanish Graduate Director, Interim Director of the Latino Research Center, and on numerous university committees. Her edited volumes and peer-reviewed articles reflect her commitment to amplifying Latino voices in Nevada and analyzing Hispanic cultural production globally.
