About
Professor Eunyoung Chae is an Associate Professor in Plant Pathology at the University of Oxford's Department of Biology and a Tutorial Fellow at Magdalen College. Her research focuses on genetic variation, plant immunity, and autoimmune mechanisms in plants.
Education:
- BSc in Biology, Seoul National University
- PhD in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Yale University (supervised by Prof. Vivian Irish)
Research Interests: Eunyoung investigates how genetic variation within species influences adaptive potential in changing environments. Her current work centers on plant autoimmunity caused by mismatched immune components, exploring the trade-offs between immune responses and developmental growth through multidisciplinary approaches.
Publications span topics including NLR gene clusters, hybrid necrosis, CRISPR tools, and structural biology of immune proteins, with recurring themes in genetics, immunology, and evolutionary biology.
Teaching: She instructs undergraduate and post-graduate courses in genetics, plant sciences, plant immunity, evolutionary genetics, and molecular genetics.
