Esma Gelis is a researcher at the Innovation, Society and Public Policy group within the Department of Science, Technology and Society at Technical University of Munich (TUM). She is affiliated with the Transforming Mobility and Society (TraMS) Lab under the Munich Cluster for the Future of Mobility in Metropolitan Regions (MCube). Her research focuses on mobility justice, sustainable urban mobility, and mobility cultures through a feminist STS lens.
Education: BSc in Management & Technology with Mechanical Engineering specialization (TUM), MSc in Science and Technology Studies (TUM). Her master’s thesis examined mobilities of multiply marginalized women. She has contributed to multiple STS research projects during her academic career.
Recent work explores institutional responses to crises like the German Covid-19 policies, analyzing how public reason frameworks shape solidarity boundaries and societal compacts. Presentations include INSIST conference (Berlin, 2022) and DVPW annual conference (online, 2022).
