Erika R. George is a Professor of Law and the Associate Dean for Equity, Justice, and Engagement at Boston University School of Law. She is also an Ernest Haddad Faculty Scholar and affiliated with the Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS). Prior to joining Boston University in 2024, she served as the Samuel D. Thurman Professor of Law at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, where she taught for over two decades and directed the Tanner Humanities Center.

Professor George specializes in Business and Human Rights, focusing on strategies to enhance corporate accountability for human rights violations. Her research spans Environmental Justice, Sustainability Reporting, Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives, and the intersection of Constitutional Law, International Law, and Trade Law with human rights frameworks. She explores human rights indicators, modern slavery, and corporate codes of conduct, advocating for innovative legal approaches to address systemic inequities.
Her expertise has been recognized through awards such as the M. Shanara Gilbert Human Rights Award, Salt Lake City Human Rights Award, and the Living Color Award for Inclusive Leadership. She is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and an elected member of the American Law Institute.
Professor George has held visiting positions at the University of Cape Town and Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She co-founded the PEN America Utah Chapter and served on boards including Shift (a center for the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights), Earthjustice, and the ACLU of Utah. Her career includes commercial litigation practice and investigations with Human Rights Watch.
