Dr. Erika Denise Edwards is an Associate Professor of Latin American History at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), affiliated with the Department of History within the College of Liberal Arts. She holds a PhD in Atlantic History from Florida International University, with concentrations in Latin America and Pre-colonial Atlantic Africa. Her research focuses on re-examining Argentina's Black past and the origins of anti-Blackness, highlighted by her award-winning book *Hiding in Plain Sight: Black Women, the Law, and the Making of a White Argentine Republic*, which analyzes Black erasure and racial construction in Argentina. She is currently working on a new book project titled *Her Presence Insults Me: A Family History of Race-Making in Argentina*.
Edwards teaches courses on African Diaspora studies, Latin American history, state-formation, and Black women’s history at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She has been featured in prominent media outlets such as *The New York Times*, *BBC*, *NPR*, and *The Guardian*, and has delivered talks across Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Her work bridges historical scholarship with public engagement through interviews, consultations, and academic presentations.
