Eric Shumate

Eric Shumate serves as Associate Chair of Graphic Design at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where he previously held the position of Professor of Graphic Design (2019-2024). His professional background includes roles as Marketing Director/Co-founder of Paws & Effect, expanding therapy dog programs, and creating international origami art installations commissioned by organizations like Laika Films and the Asian Art Museum.

Shumate holds an M.F.A. in Graphic Design from SCAD and a B.F.A. in Fine Art from Kansas State University.

His research spans graphic design innovation, art therapy applications, and human-animal bond interventions. Artistic practice focuses on spatial design and public art engagement through paper-based installations.

Honors include multiple ADDY awards for design excellence, Telly Awards for video production, and recognition from the American Humane Association for community service initiatives.
