Eric Jones

Eric Jones is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, based in El Paso, Texas. His research focuses on social epidemiology, examining human behavior and wellbeing in extreme circumstances such as disasters, warfare, migration, and cancer, with an emphasis on stress, depression, anxiety, and social support systems.

Major research programs include:

• Comparative Disaster Recovery - studying recovery patterns across 10+ disasters in Ecuador, Mexico, and the United States
• Hazards and Cultural Transformations - analyzing historical responses to disasters in 98 societies over 200 years
• Cultural Models of Nature - researching environmental understanding in food production systems in Ecuador and 12+ countries

He specializes in social network analysis, health care coordination, and interorganizational dynamics, with fieldwork spanning Mexico, Ecuador, and the United States. He develops social network analysis software and collaborates with the Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research.
