Dr. Eric Hoddy is a Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of York, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. He is also a Research Fellow on the Earth System Governance Project (Utrecht University) and a member of its Taskforce on Planetary Justice. His research focuses on climate adaptation, human rights leadership, and transformative justice in transitional and post-conflict settings. Key projects include the TRANSIST initiative exploring climate adaptation in Mozambique's urban informal settlements and work on transformative agrarian justice in Tunisia.
Eric holds a PhD in Politics and has held roles at Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS), the University of Sheffield, and WorldFish. He has advised on CGIAR climate adaptation projects in Solomon Islands. His interdisciplinary work bridges human rights, environmental governance, and socio-legal frameworks.
Research interests include climate justice, legal consciousness in marginalized communities, and the intersection of human rights with sustainable development. He supervises PhD projects on climate adaptation, transitional justice, and social movements.
Recent funded projects include the Transist project (funded by VR Sweden) and a CAHR Generating Respect Hub initiative on Transitional Justice in the Anthropocene. He contributes to peer review for the ESRC and advises the UNESCO Chair in Sport for Development, Peace, and the Environment.
Eric's publications span journals like Journal of Human Rights and Social and Legal Studies, with a focus on policy briefs and transformative justice frameworks. His work emphasizes bottom-up approaches to address inequality and environmental challenges.
