About
Eric Brandstedt serves as Associate Professor of Human Rights and Associate Professor of Practical Philosophy at Lund University. His academic work focuses on the intersection of human rights, climate ethics, and political philosophy, with particular emphasis on achieving just transitions to fossil-free societies. He actively contributes to Lund University's Human Rights Profile area and participates in interdisciplinary research collaborations.
Brandstedt's research primarily examines justice issues related to climate change and climate policy, with recent work shifting toward more concrete local justice concerns. His investigations include the moral foundations of perceived injustices related to wind power expansion and protests against high fuel prices. He maintains broader interests in political philosophy, particularly regarding intergenerational justice, participatory methods in normative theory, and human rights frameworks.
His publication portfolio demonstrates a strong focus on energy justice and climate transition ethics, with recent articles analyzing moral arguments in Swedish fuel protests, engaged ethics approaches to wind power development, and population policy ethics. These works reveal consistent attention to the intersection of philosophical ethics and practical policy implementation in climate action.
Brandstedt currently leads one research project while participating in two others, all focused on different aspects of just climate transitions. His active involvement in doctoral supervision, conference presentations, and public engagement demonstrates his commitment to translating academic research into practical applications for sustainable development.
He participates extensively in academic networks, including the Lund Environmental Humanities Hub, and frequently presents at conferences such as the Lund University Research Conference on Sustainable Development and Societas Ethica's Annual Conference. His work aligns with multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to climate action and responsible consumption.
