University of Mississippi Medical CenterAbout
Dr. Eric George is Associate Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he directs research on gestational disorders including preeclampsia. His laboratory investigates ischemia-driven extracellular remodeling, novel anti-angiogenic peptides, and placental glycocalyx dynamics using molecular techniques and rodent models of pregnancy-induced hypertension.
Research focuses on heparanase/matrix metalloproteinase enzymes, their cleavage products' role in inflammation, and developing peptide-based therapeutics using elastin-like polypeptide carriers that prevent fetal exposure. Collaborative work with Dr. Lee Bidwell has yielded patented drug delivery systems.
Awards include the APS WEH New Investigator Award and multiple UMMC Excellence in Research medals. Current projects examine extracellular matrix degradation products as biomarkers and their utility in clinical populations.
