Taysir M. Abusaa is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center's School of Medicine since 2009. He previously served as an Assistant Professor (1999–2009) and completed his residency in Pediatrics there in 1996. He holds advanced degrees including a Ph.D. Candidate (Epidemiology, 2006) and an MS (Epidemiology, 2004) from the same institution. His career began with medical training at Ain Shams University (M.B.B.CH, 1982) and early clinical roles in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Abusaa’s research interests focus on pediatric epidemiology, emergency care, child abuse, and public health. He has contributed to studies like the cancer mortality ratio analysis among Mississippi farmers and frequently lectures on topics such as pediatric emergencies, child maltreatment, and diagnostic techniques. His teaching includes roles as an APLS Course Director and PALS Instructor.
He has received awards including the 'Most Patients Seen Award' and multiple PREP Education Awards. His professional service spans committees such as the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Mississippi Chapter of the AAP, and the Pediatric Trauma Committee. He also chairs the R.E.A.C.T. team’s Environment Subcommittee and participates in initiatives like the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Management.
