Eric Bugyis

Eric Bugyis is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Program of Liberal Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies (Yale University), an M.A.R. in Religion (Yale Divinity School), and dual B.S./B.A. degrees in Biochemistry and Religion (Case Western Reserve University, all summa cum laude). His research bridges Christian theology and radical politics, focusing on figures like Dorothy Day, Howard Thurman, and James Baldwin. He teaches Theology, Philosophy, Intellectual History, and Great Books Seminars, often offering directed readings on seminal authors such as Kant, Kierkegaard, and Nietzsche.

Research interests include Marxist-Christian dialogue, post-colonial theory in India/America, and the philosophies of religion by Habermas and Kant. He has published in Commonweal, Critical Research on Religion, and co-edited Desire, Faith, and the Darkness of God (2015).
