Emmanuel Drakakis

Professor Emmanuel Drakakis holds a prominent academic role at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (EL.ME.PA), currently serving as Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs. He is affiliated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the School of Technological Applications. His career includes roles as Dean of the School of Technological Applications, Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Crete, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Crete.

Drakakis earned a Physics degree from the University of Crete (1983), a Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies in Plasma Physics from the University Paul Sabatier (1985), and a PhD in Atomic Physics (1988). He has conducted research at institutions including the Plasma Physics Research Center of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), the Naval Research Laboratory (USA), and various Greek research institutes.

His research focuses on plasma physics, electromagnetic radiation production/propagation, and computational modeling of radiation and plasma systems. He has led or contributed to 20 funded research projects, resulting in 42 journal papers, 35 conference proceedings, and 4 invited conference talks. His work has been cited 879 times with an h-index of 16 and i10-index of 21.

Drakakis has held administrative leadership roles across multiple institutions, demonstrating expertise in both academic governance and technical research.
