Emma Weaver is a Senior Research Officer and PhD candidate at Menzies School of Health Research, specializing in public health and Indigenous health. She holds a Master of Public Health and has worked with the Diabetes Across the Lifecourse Northern Australia Partnership for five years, focusing on youth-onset type 2 diabetes prevention and culturally safe evaluation approaches.
Her research interests include social determinants of health, qualitative methods, and health equity. Previously, she advocated for women’s health policies in Victoria. She collaborates on projects addressing diabetes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and has conducted studies on alcohol advertising and water sanitation in Myanmar.
Emma’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being, and reducing inequalities. She contributes to peer-reviewed journals and has authored/co-authored four articles since 2016.
Her current project explores strategies to support Indigenous youth in managing type 2 diabetes in remote Australia. Emma emphasizes participatory approaches to strengthen health outcomes for marginalized communities.
