Dr. Emma Mc Cluskey is a Research Fellow at the School of Security Studies within King’s College London, where she works in the Department of War Studies and contributes to Contemporary International Relations Theory as a Teaching Fellow. She is a member of the Research Centre in International Relations (RCIR).
- PhD in International Relations from King’s College London (submitted September 2016).
Research Interests: Emma focuses on the intersection of migration, security, and everyday life, blending ethnographic methods with Critical Security Studies. Her work examines how ordinary citizens navigate security discourses and reconfigure geopolitical practices through localized, horizontal actions.
Projects:
- SOURCE Network (FP7-funded): Analyzing societal security networks across Europe and their impact on third-country nationals.
- LIEP (Language, Insecurity and Everyday Practice): Exploring interdisciplinary links between sociolinguistics and security studies.
Teaching: Convenes modules on International Relations theory, Critical Security Studies, and transdisciplinary approaches to security.
Scientific Awards:

- British Academy and King’s College London Social Science and Public Policy funding for LIEP.
