Emma Mavin

Emma Mavin is a Tutor at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh, specializing in Mystical Theology and the History of Christianity. She holds an MTh (Distinction) and MA (Honours) in Divinity from the University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on figures like John of the Cross, Catherine of Siena, and Nicholas of Cusa, exploring themes of mysticism, suffering, and visual theology.

Teaching responsibilities include courses on Popular Religion in Early Modern Europe and the Global History of Christianity. She has organized conferences such as the New College Postgraduate Colloquium (2021) and presented papers at major events like the International Medieval Congress (Leeds, 2021).

Affiliations include the Mystical Theology Network, Mysticism and Lived Experience Network, and the Royal Historical Society. Her current research is supported by an SGSAH (AHRC) Studentship grant.
