Emma Bell is a Full Professor of British Civilization at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, affiliated with the LLSETI and TRIANGLE laboratories. She holds roles as Coordinator of the LEA Master's Degree and Deputy Director of the LLSETI laboratory. Her research focuses on British penal policy, neoliberalism, authoritarianism, and Brexit's socio-political impacts. She completed a PhD on New Labour’s penal policy (2008) and a habilitation (2015), published extensively on criminal justice, neoliberalism, and populism.
Research Interests: Her work explores neoliberalism’s influence on criminal justice, the evolution of British penal policy, and the rise of authoritarian populism. Key themes include the intersection of democracy, nationalism, and penal systems, with a focus on comparative studies between France and the UK.
Publications: Major works include *Criminal Justice and Neoliberalism* (2011) and *Soft Power and Freedom under the Coalition* (2015). Recent articles address Brexit’s democratic illusions, penal populism, and right-wing extremism in UK politics.
