About
Emily Murphy is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Mercy College, affiliated with the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Since joining in 2015, she has focused on integrating clinical practice, research, and education. Her work bridges child welfare advocacy, trauma intervention, and social work pedagogy. She previously held roles as a supervising social worker at the Legal Aid Society’s Kathryn A. McDonald Education Advocacy Project and a field advisor for Fordham University’s social work program.
Her research explores trauma’s impact on emerging adulthood, mindfulness interventions for college students with ACEs, and the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and social work field education. Current projects include developing a Trauma Experiences Scale for Emerging Adulthood and a mindfulness/exercise intervention study.
Publications highlight her expertise in intimate partner violence’s effects on caregiving, social work students’ well-being, and mental health challenges in field education. She actively contributes to professional development as the Education Chair of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Westchester Chapter since 2022.
