Emily Herman McMillan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Lifespan Development and Educational Sciences at Kent State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio State University and is licensed as a School Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Ohio. With nearly a decade of K-12 school counseling experience, Dr. McMillan has worked in clinical mental health settings including drug/alcohol centers and behavioral health hospitals.
Her research focuses on social and emotional learning (SEL), particularly for educators, and the intersection of SEL with diverse and marginalized populations. She has held leadership roles in professional counseling organizations including Secretary of the Ohio Counseling Association.
