Emily Gephart is Senior Lecturer at Tufts University's School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Lecturer in the Department of History of Art and Architecture. She holds a PhD in History Theory & Criticism from MIT (2014), MA in History of Modern and American Art from Tufts (1997), and BA in Art History and Fine Arts Studio from Oberlin College (1991). Her research spans visual culture, focusing on ecocriticism and perceptual psychology through diverse media including scientific approaches to the unconscious mind, poetic satire, oceanic encounters in art, millinery fashion, and fly fishing lures.
Gephart's publications explore intersections of art, ecology, and psychology, with recent work examining marine painting across the Atlantic, Anthropocene visual culture, and ethical fashion. She has presented at numerous conferences including College Art Association (2012, 2014, 2019), History of Science Society (2014), and Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (2019).
