Emily Brady is a Professor of Philosophy at Texas A&M University since 2018. Previously, she held positions at the University of Edinburgh (Professor of Environment and Philosophy) and Lancaster University (Senior Lecturer). Her expertise spans aesthetics, environmental ethics, eighteenth-century philosophy, and animal studies. She earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Glasgow in 1992. Brady has authored/co-authored seven books, including Between Nature and Culture and The Sublime in Modern Philosophy, and her work has been translated into multiple languages.
Her research explores intersections between aesthetics, ethics, and environmental challenges, with recent focus on climate change aesthetics and the sublime. Brady has held prestigious roles, including Director of Texas A&M’s Glasscock Center for Humanities Research (2018–2022), where she established the Humanities: Land Sea Space initiative. She serves on international advisory boards for the Center for Animal Ethics and the International Institute of Applied Aesthetics.
Brady’s awards include the 2024 College of Arts and Sciences Research Impact Award and a 2022–2025 Arts & Humanities Fellowship. Her editorial contributions span journals like Environmental Values and Society and Space. She has also held visiting roles at Princeton, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Bologna.
