Emil André Røyrvik

Emil André Røyrvik is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Political Science at NTNU. His research focuses on sociocultural anthropology, political economy, and the study of capitalism as a social system. He examines topics such as financialization, organizational cultures, and the interplay between measurement practices and societal structures. Key works include the award-winning monograph *The Allure of Capitalism* and the co-edited volume *Trangen til å telle*.

He leads interdisciplinary initiatives like the *Ethnography* research group and participates in projects such as *Democracy Lab* and *Pacesetters*, exploring ethnography’s role in understanding contemporary societal challenges. His work bridges theory and practice, addressing global crises through ethnographic methodologies.

Røyrvik has held academic positions at NTNU since completing his doctoral dissertation in 2008. He has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications, including journal articles, edited volumes, and book chapters. His awards include SINTEF’s excellence in research award for innovative contributions to social science methodologies.

His outreach activities include lectures on topics such as neoliberalism’s impact on universities and the cultural dimensions of economic crises. He actively engages with both academic and public audiences through conferences and seminars.
